Sunday 2 June 2013

A busy few days since the last instalment!!  We completed our journey to the end of the Macclesfield Canal, at Marple Junction where we turned onto the Peak Forest Canal and headed towards Bugsworth Basin.  We arrived at Bugsworth Basin on Friday after a stop at a handy Tesco to stock up.  Found a mooring that was good for the crazy mutts, and tied up ready to stay until Sunday morning.

The approach to Marple Junction was not without difficulty as I was in charge of the boat while Graham walked the dogs.  Managed to get well and truly stuck and eventually walked along the gunnel to retrieve the pole to try and pole off the obstruction.  However inadvertently left the boat in reverse and when I got back it had managed to free itself.  Nothing left to do but to carry on and pretend that I had left it in reverse on purpose (haha as if!!).  Think I got away with it!

The actual 'Teapot Cottages'

On the way into Bugsworth Basin we passed the actual Teapot Cottages, see above, I was given duff information before!  These cottages are so named as it was thought that the occupants used to empty their teapots into the canal!

Had a relaxing day off, moored in Bugsworth Basin, which was very enjoyable.  Took the dogs walking and spent time sitting outside in the sunshine.  Had the all important cakes and ice creams.

NB Toulouse turning to leave Bugsworth Basin
This morning after a relaxing morning dog walking we got ready and left.  Followed NB Toulouse out of the basin and along to Marple Junction.  Shared the work with lift and swing bridges, which always makes life a little easier.  There is a delicious smell in the air at New Mills the site of the Matlow's factory, where Swizzles are made (love hearts and refreshers etc).

We are moored this evening on the Peak Forest Canal just before Marple Junction, as we are still having a problem with the engine we may be here for a day or two.  Possible a problem with the fuel injector pump.  Tomorrow Graham will be phoning Walsh's, who supplied the engine, for advice.
