Today has been an entertaining day!  The weather was a bit iffy when we got up so decided to have breakfast and then walk the dogs before a decision was made about whether to move on or not.  By the time we got back it had cheered up a bit so we decided to have breakfast part 2 (bacon, eggs etc) and then head off for Ripon.

Lots of little boats whizzing around and some bigger ones!

At the first lock the gates were open and a cruiser was waiting to go in.  He suggested we share the lock, and after some discussion, as we are too long for the locks we gave it a go.  Both he and Graham were sure it could happen even though all of us watching from the top could see that there just wasn’t room.  After much persistence and a brief period where both boats were jammed in the lock and stuck we managed to squeeze the other boat out and Graham and I went through.  Felt a bit bad though as essentially we pinched there lock.  We tied up on the other side and went back and helped them through though.

Coming out from the lock we almost became part of a ‘flotilla’ taking part in the jubilee celebrations.  Loads of boats all decked out in bunting were taking part and there was a party on the bank.  We spoke to loads of people today as there were several people round most of the locks all wanting to chat.  One guy handed Graham a dog bowl and asked if he could have some water, that’s a first!

Made it to the top, after a stop at the excellent services, which are apparently the best on the whole of the waterways.  I am willing to believe this!  There is plenty of space here to moor and only one other boat at the moment.  Apart from being close to a road the moorings are very pleasant and close to Ripon town centre.  Had a quick walk before dinner but we were fairly late getting here so will have to have a proper look round tomorrow.  May stay here tomorrow and move on Wednesday.
